Marine extinguisher systems can be very different. Some systems are automatically activated, some are manually activated, and others are just hand held extinguishers.
Be sure and find out what the USCG has determined to be the minimum type extinguisher you are required to have on board. If you decide that this minimum requirement is a little to "minimum", you can always add additional extinguishers or systems.
Many boaters, even those that use their boat only on Sundays like to have an automatic system in the engine compartment. This system can protect your watercraft even when it's on the trailer or stored for the winter.

MODEL AT
The Model AT is an automatic thermal extinguisher used in a variety of applications. It discharges automatically when a specified temperature is reached. Typically used in enclosed engine and machinery compartments. The Model AT can also have an electrical circuit interruption switch to shut down other systems if the unit is activated.
